Authorities in California are investigating after an airman currently stationed at Minot Air Force Base was injured while on leave.

A spokesperson for Minot Air Force Base confirms with Your News Leader that Staff Sgt. Keith Keiffer, who is assigned to the 91st Missile Wing, was on leave in California when he was hurt, and was taken to a hospital in Jackson, Calif., Wednesday.

The spokesperson said authorities in Sacramento are handling the case.

According to the Sacramento Bee, 32-year-old Keiffer was found in a ditch near the city of Jackson, and had suffered a head injury. He did not know how he was hurt, and could not remember his name.

The spokesperson for the base said Keiffer was previously assigned to Travis Air Force Base in California.
