MINOT, N.D. - Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring shared his message of the importance of food banks in the Magic City.
Goerhing spoke on the issue at the North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association & Local Foods Conference.
He said one in nine people in North Dakota are hungry and more than 50 percent are either the elderly or children.
“We have half of our really sensitive part of our culture and our society that are hungry. And with that, we also have a part of our society that doesn't have access to a lot of fruits and vegetables which are important to our diets,” said Goehring.
Goehring's program "Hunger Free North Dakota" helps eliminate hunger within the state.
