A Warrior's Heart: Toy & Book Drive

MINOT, N.D. - A Warrior's Heart, a local nonprofit seeking to help families with ill children, is hoping to make some community member's Christmas brighter.

After battling childhood cancer, the Cortez family is gathering toys and books during a season that they recall as being difficult, Christmas.

The family-run nonprofit is working with the local JCPenney store and salon collecting toys and books for all ages. This gives the community a chance to help make other local families have the cheery Christmas.

"We would really love to help a lot of families. We ourselves got very blessed last year while we were in the Ronald McDonald house. We had a lot of people donate to us while we were going through such a hard time. So my intentions are just to give back what I was given," said Rachel Jones Cortez, A Warrior's Heart Founder.

You can find three donation boxes throughout the JCPenney store and salon from now until Dec. 22.

A Warrior's Heart will be throwing a fundraising Winterfest on Dec. 22. at the Moose Lodge from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
