64-year-old man charged with sexual assault of a minor pleaded not guilty

BISMARCK, N.D. - A 64-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old multiple times pleaded not guilty Monday.

Russell Walbert didn’t appear in court on Monday after his attorney’s waived the hearing.

Bismarck Police Department detectives say Walbert is accused of inappropriately touching the victim when she was between 8 and 9 years old.

Police say the child told them she was touched by Walbert multiple times and described two incidents in more detail, according to the affidavit.

In July, Walbert denied having sexual contact with the minor when questioned by police and said the child was lying but wouldn’t specify why she would make it up.

He’s charged with four counts of gross sexual imposition.

His trial hasn’t been scheduled yet.
