MINOT, N.D.- The people of Minot are coming out to cook, compete, and eat chili for a good cause.
Independence Inc. a local nonprofit hosted the fifth annual Chili Bowl fundraiser for North Dakotans with disabilities.
Local restaurants and chefs turned out to give samples, compete for cash prizes, and to be crowned the 2020 Chili Bowl Champion.
The winning chili is chosen by a panel of judges, and a popular vote is counted with a People's Choice Award.
Independence, Inc. executive Director Scott Burlingame says the event gets better every year.
“It gets a little bit bigger each year and I'm really proud to say that by looking around tonight, I think we're going to have another record setting year. I really think that in the next few years we can continue to add a little bit more competition and a little more competitors. It was over $10,000 last year that we netted on the event and we're hoping to do at least that if not better this year," Burlingame said.
On top of chili samples the event also included a silent auction, raffle drawing, and live music.
