$50,000 bond set for karate instructor accused of taking videos of minors in the changing room

BISMARCK, N.D. - A Bismarck karate instructor has been charged in connection to touching a student and taking videos of others in the changing room of the facility.

The affidavit says 23-year-old Adler Scheer was arrested after a child found a phone in one of the changing rooms resting on top of one the dividing walls on Monday. She noticed the phone and grabbed it and that’s when she noticed it had been recording for 16 minutes. The victim gave the phone to the instructor.

Law enforcement say Scheer, an instructor at Bismarck ATA Martial Arts, admitted it was his phone and he placed it up there in an attempt to take videos of his students changing. Documents say he’s done this twice before and admits he wanted to see them naked.

All the victims are under the age of 14.

The affidavit says Scheer also admitted to touching an 11-year-old inappropriately a month ago.

He’s charged with gross sexual imposition, and three counts of surreptitious intrusion.

A judge set his bond at 10 percent of $50,000 in cash, no phone or internet access, no unsupervised contact with non-related minors and no contact with the victims.

The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification says Scheer is out of custody.
