MCKENZIE COUNTY, N.D. - Four people from Louisiana were arrested in McKenzie County and charged with stealing copper wire.

In court documents, McKenzie County Sheriff deputies say Monday evening a witness saw two men cut wire from some trailers, and followed their truck down Highway 85 in Alexander. Deputies say they conducted a traffic stop assisted by Highway Patrol, and in a search of the vehicle which smelled like marijuana, they found a joint, a large amount of cut copper wire and copper wire cutters.

The stolen copper was estimated to be worth over $1,000. Deputies say they arrested the driver, 26-year-old Anthony Niko Freeman of West Monroe, Louisiana, a couple from Monroe, Louisiana, 49-year-old Truly April McClain and 53-year-old Lloyd Ray McClain, and 42-year-old Jeromy Beard of Downsville, Louisiana.

They have each been charged with theft, and Freeman has an additional charge for driving under the influence of drugs.
