MINOT, N.D. - The 3rd Street Bridge in Minot is currently closed for construction.
Contractors are working to relocate utilities for the flood protection project, coming all the way from the Broadway Bridge.
We spoke with Minot Public Works to learn more about what they're doing.
"Basically these are utilities that need to be relocated or upsized for the flood protection work that is going on the MI1. So a lot of the water mains are being upsized. The storm sewer is being upsized to handle the 100-year storm events,” said Dan Jonasson, director of the Souris River Joint Board.
Going across what would be the 3rd Street and 5th Avenue intersection, it is currently a hole that crews are working in. As we near the end of construction season, Jonasson says the project is behind schedule a few days.
“This should be the last of the utility work that is tied to the MI1. That I guess would affect anyone. In future phases, we will have other utilities relocations, and road work and everything,” said Jonasson.
He says that the pedestrian walkway on 3rd Street is still open, but asks the public to use caution when walking past the construction site.
