A man is behind bars after leading multiple agencies on a nearly three-hour pursuit.

The Morton County Sheriff’s Department says the pursuit started when a Mandan Police Department officer was trying to make a traffic stop and the driver fled South on Highway 1806.

Morton County Sheriff’s Department deputies say the 29-year-old Bismarck man abandoned his car and fled on foot, before stealing a pickup truck.

According to a Morton County Sheriff's Department release, deputies and Highway Patrol troopers and aircraft pursued the suspect south on Highway 6 until he reached the reservation boundary in Sioux County.

The release says law enforcement made multiple attempts to spike the pickup tires but the suspect drove around the spikes to avoid them.

Officials were able to catch the man with a spike strip on the Little Heart Bridge.

He was taken into custody around 5:20 p.m.

Deputies say the incident is under investigation and will withhold the suspects name until he is officially charged.
