UPDATE: Grenora Junior High volleyball team and driver in the hospital after bus crash

WILLIAMS COUNTY, N.D. - UPDATE (9-9-19): The Grenora Public School and Westby Public School say the bus involved in Saturday's accident was carrying the MonDak Thunder junior high volleyball team.

They say counselors will be available on Monday at the school.

UPDATE (9-7-19): A Grenora School bus carrying 23 people including the driver was traveling south on Williams County #5 from Grenora, North Dakota to Lambert, Montana. The bus was traveling between 40-45 miles per hour.

The vehicle drifted onto the righthand road edge and the driver steered to the left. The bus then entered the left ditch and the driver steered to the right. The bus overturned on the roadway coming to rest on its driver’s side.

The driver and one other passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

ORIGINAL STORY (9-7-19): The Williston Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 9:00am this morning to assist Grenora Ambulance with a school bus accident on County Road 5 and 66th Street NW in Williams County.

The bus was carrying the junior high volleyball team with a total of 23 passengers onboard. All have been transported for treatment.

Responding agencies included Williston Fire Department, Grenora Ambulance, Williams County Sheriffs and Williams County Emergency Management. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

More updated information will be released later this afternoon.
