WATFORD CITY, N.D. - At the end of November, the Chairman of the Board of the McKenzie County Commission will have his final meeting in the position.
Richard Cayko has served on the commission the last 20 years, but failed to get enough votes to renew his term. For Cayko, the news came with mixed emotions.
"I had a couple reactions. One was kind of 'well there goes your child out the door like in college,' and another one was, like later on was 'I'm going to a funeral' type of thing. So I had both feelings. That's the way it goes. I've been in this for 20 years, and the voters have spoken, and so I'll accept that as no problem," says Cayko.
Cayko says he wants to travel more and is looking forward to not having to base his schedule around county meetings.
A new chairman of the board is expected to be named from the commission in December.
