A 16 pound 9 ounce walleye thought to be a state record will not qualify as a state record.

The North Dakota Game and Fish department says the Walleye caught on April 21 in the Heart River doesn't qualify to be a state record because it was foul hooked.

The department says to qualify as a state record, a fish must be caught in accordance with the rules for recreational fishing.
