The McKenzie County Sheriffs office says that a man has died and three others were injured in an oil well explosion near Watford City.
McKenzie County deputies responded to the workover rig explosion just after 8 a.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived on scene, the fire was out.
Fifty-two-year-old Johnny Stassinos, of Rock Springs, Wyo., was taken to a Minot hospital and died about 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Montes, of Fruita, Colo., and 27-year-old Richard Maheu, of Rock Springs, Wyo., are both still at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., and are still in critical condition after suffering third-degree burns.
Forty-year-old Justin Pyle, of Grand Junction, Colo. was treated at the McKenzie County Heath Care Systems Hospital in Watford City, ND for minor injuries and has been released.
The explosion happend at an XTO location and all those injured worked for contractors on the location.
The North Dakota OSHA office says that they are investigating the cause of the explosion. They have crews en route to the site and will know more information once they conduct their investigation.
OSHA says that it's the first death in the oilfield this year.
