Authorities capture ‘dangerous’ inmate who escaped custody at hospital in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) - Police confirmed the inmate who escaped from a St. Louis, Missouri, hospital early Thursday is back in custody.
Tommy Boyd was taken into custody without incident at a Dierbergs grocery store at the 7300 block of Watson Road in Shrewsbury.
The St. Louis County Police Department initially reported the 45-year-old escaped from Mercy Hospital South at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to the hospital from the Potosi Correctional Facility on Wednesday for treatment.
Surveillance video showed Boyd leaving the hospital on foot, traveling in an unknown direction.
Boyd is serving a 30-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections for statutory sodomy.

Mercy South released a statement about the escape, reporting there was no physical confrontation and no one was hurt.
A nearby school district, Lindbergh Schools, announced it implemented lockout procedures Thursday morning in response to the escaped inmate.
Outside, police searched inside cars and a drone could be seen hovering over a parking lot.
