MINOT, N.D. – Minot police said Wednesday they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a burned vehicle June 3 as murder, and are working with state investigators to identify the victim.

Minot Police and Fire responded to a vehicle fire in southeast Minot the early morning hours of June 3, and when the fire was contained investigators found the victim’s body inside.

Police said they are working with the Forensic Examiner’s Office and the State Crime Lab to identify the remains.

Investigators said due to extreme circumstances surrounding the case, they must wait for DNA results for a positive identification, which may take weeks to complete.

Police said they have evidence suggesting the victim’s identity and have contact the person’s family, but cannot release that until the results are in.
