MHA Nation mulling over options with Las Vegas land purchase
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Leaders in the MHA Nation are still in the early stages of deciding what to do with a piece of land they purchased in Las Vegas, Nevada, last year.
In June of 2020 the Tribal Business Council approved the purchase of more than eight acres of vacant land undergoing bankruptcy proceedings.
The council approved $17 million for the purchase but only needed $12 million to buy the land. Chairman Mark Fox said that external real estate is one way the tribe can generate revenue.
“We can sit and do nothing with it, and I promise we’d earn money on it; and that’s why we’re a tribal business council. Our job on behalf of our people and our nation is to make investments and to conduct business to raise revenues,” said Fox.
Fox said that for now there are no plans on what will go on to the land but he said whatever is decided will be a council decision.
