DSU Softball NAIA National Tourney Bound
DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - Dickinson State won the North Star Conference softball championship on Saturday. The biggest prize that comes with that title is an automatic berth into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament.
Head Coach Kristen Fleury says preventing runs last week was more important that scoring them.
Dickinson State Head Coach Kristen Fleury said: “We play defense, and we have a tremendous weekend from our number one pitcher Jaya Allen. She pitched every single inning for us and she was a different kid this weekend for us. It’s a Jaya we haven’t seen all year and she just truly led our team not only in the circle just as a whole and then we just got enough runs when we needed to and that was ultimately how it worked out for us.”
The national tournament starts later this week. It begins at ten different on-campus sites all across the country with four teams playing at each site.
“At this point we really have no idea where we’re going to go,” said Fleury. “There’s nowhere really close. It could be Missouri. It could be Oklahoma. It could be Kentucky. Another option is Southern Oregon. We don’t know and we find out tomorrow at 3:00 so for us we’re just excited to be in this opportunity to wait for that moment.”
Coach Fleury talked about Allen and her influence on the Blue Hawks. Jaya is first-team All-Conference in the North Star so are her teammates Katelyn Kubitschek, Hailey Enriquez and Dallis Mitchell.
We’ll let you know tomorrow where the Hawks will be heading for nationals.
