Billings County fire estimated at 1,000 acres burned
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - A fire that started Wednesday afternoon is estimated to have burned 1,000 acres in north Billings County.
The U.S. Forest Service says crews battled the fire overnight, north of the Wananga Campground on the Little Missouri National Grassland.
Billings County Fire Chief Kyle Shockley says the containment is unknown, but crews are continuing to push the edges of the fire and put out hotspots Thursday morning.
Chief Shockley said the North Dakota Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire, which is unknown.
There are no reports of damage to structures.
Billings County Deputy Chief Dean Wyckoff said the wildfire is approximately 18 miles north and west of Medora.
Local, state and federal resources were on scene all night and are still working Thursday morning.
No injuries were reported.
