Woman pleads guilty to hitting and killing pedestrian
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian last year pleaded guilty to negligent homicide this Wednesday morning.
Thirty-two-year-old Amber Rebel was walking across a driveway when she was hit by 85-year-old Bertha Harper.
Rebel was air lifted to Fargo where she was intubated and put into an induced coma from her critical injuries.
“After 12 days of suffering, a decision was made to unplug her from life support and she passed away 10 minutes after that,” said States Attorney Anne Arginti.
On Wednesday, the suspect Harper pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and duty to give information and aid. “I plead guilty your honor, I was the driver of the car,” said Harper.
Harper faces a maximum 15 years in prison for the two charges.
A Burleigh County judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation, which can take between six and eight weeks before Harper is sentenced.
