(CNN) – More than 350,000 people died from COVID-19 in the United States last year, making it likely the third leading cause of death for 2020.

Only heart disease and cancer are suspected of killing more people last year.

The Centers for Disease and Prevention is compiling the data and looking at all the figures to determine the exact numbers.

But based on the totals from 2019, the agency thinks COVID deaths will rank in the top 3.

Heart disease and cancer typically top the list.
