Senator Discusses Federal Agent Need

Posted: Updated:

Sen. John Hoeven and local law enforcement from across western North Dakota met in Williston today.

The meeting was to talk about the ongoing needs in this part of the state. One of the main needs is for more federal agents across the board. Currently, there are no agents permanently stationed in town, but some do rotate in from Sidney and other cities for a couple weeks to a month at a time.

They have contacts all over the nation. The people that are committing crimes here. Most of the them didn't come from here.not to say that our locals don't have problems too, but some of these are coming as far away from Mexico. They're out of our jurisdiction," says Williams County Sheriff Scott Busching.

"We've got them coming out on a temporary basis, but that just doesn't get the job done. So, this is about making the case, and I'm working directly contacting both the head of the FBI and the DEA. I'm telling them that we need permanent people here," says Hoeven.

Hoeven added he hopes Williston can have some agents in town within months.
