University of Mary Football Names 2014 Captains

Posted: Updated:
A new football season means new leaders, and the University of Mary named four team captains Saturday who will help lead the Marauders this year.

One of those captains isn't necessarily new, though. Senior and Bismarck High grad Nick Jolliffe was also named one last year as a junior. In his second tenure as captain, he's joined by outside linebacker Grant Singer, wide receiver and punt returner Elby Pope, and defensive end Troy Guptill. At Media Day, Jolliffe said he thinks this year's team will bring back some Marauder tradition.

"It's definitely exciting. I kind of remember when I was a little kid, going to Marauders football games even out here, kind of that atmosphere. So hopefully we can bring back some of that old school stuff and bring a bunch of excitement to our program," Jolliffe said.

The Marauders will also name a 5th game-day starter each week. They kick things off Saturday at home against Southwest Minnesota State. We'll hear more from the Marauders about how they're preparing for that game later this week.
