Mandan Hosts Softball Rec E Nationals

Posted: Updated:
The regular season and state tournaments might be over for amateur softball teams, but some men's Rec E teams are still in action. They're playing in the nationals this weekend in Mandan.

Along with the 17 teams that qualified from out of state, any team that played in the North Dakota tournament could register. 47 teams from the Peace Garden State came out, and those players are happy for the opportunity to play in an event of this scope.

"It's nice for North Dakota to host. These kinds of tournaments don't come around very often, and for us to be able to play in this is pretty cool. North Dakota ASA was able to get this one here in Mandan, and next year the D is in Fargo, so North Dakota is kind of on the map for hosting these tournaments. I think it's because they do a really good job. Mandan Parks and Rec and the softball association here, Fargo softball association, the park district over there, they do a great job. Look at the fields, it rained all night, and we're still playing," says Darin Krueger, a player for the Williston Mulligans team.

As the tournament is finishing up, Mulligans from Williston is the last remaining team from North Dakota in the final three. So they are guaranteed a trophy, now just playing for the size of it.
