The University of Mary plays in the Northern Sun Conference in every sport but one.
The NSIC does not have men's soccer so, the Marauders are members of the Great Northwest which features the third-ranked team in Simon Fraser.
It's another way to say the conference is solid, and this will be UMary's third-year in it.
Head coach Dave Cook says they've spent a lot of time and energy on building togetherness which they did not have at the beginning of last season.
"It's not a game where one or two super stars win the game. It's a game that takes every single player on the field. We felt like the talent we had last year was maybe enough to do a little bit more so, the guys have really embraced that. A lot of their energy came out of the recognition of the latter half of last season, and part of where we went into the spring was in generating the sense of togetherness," says Cook.
The Marauders will get a big boost from the return of goal keeper Michael Frenzel. The Century grad missed last season following a couple of knee injuries, needless to say, he's eager to get going.
"It was pretty tough for me last year to sit on the sideline or go up and film while everyone was getting ready for the game. I'm off on my own, and not being part of that so that was challenging. I put a lot of work in this summer, and I think everyone else has so, I think we're all ready. I know I'm sharper than I was before. I'm just excited," says Frenzel.
Frenzl was all-conference in his last full season of competition. UMary is picked to finish seventh by the coaches in the GNAC. Simon Fraser is the big favorite.
