Bobcat Continues to Expand Globally

Posted: Updated:
A company that began in North Dakota has gone global in the past 50 years, but it will continue to stay anchored here.

Bobcat, which makes skid steer loaders, and its parent company Doosan recently opened its newest and most innovative facility yet to come up with new ideas.
The 28 million dollar project took a little more than a year to complete, and the company says it doesn't only show its investment in technology but also in this community.

The Keyva is just one way the acceleration center is designed to foster innovation and creativity.

The 190,000-square-foot facility is aiming to speed up the designing and testing of concepts for the compact equipment company.

"The ideas that we get throughout our company whether it be from our other facilities throughout North Dakota, or our other facilities around the world, take those ideas back here and accelerate them and make them faster," says Rich Goldsbury of Bobcat.

Goldsbury says the open work environment, multiple meeting spaces and demonstration labs help employees flow from one stage of a project to the next. And some say the new-age facility is exactly what Bismarck needed.

"It'll take our community to a whole new level to attract a whole new level of talent, the people that are going to use technology and innovation to change the industry," says Mayor Mike Seminary.

A 35,000-square-foot indoor arena and 22 acres outside make up an engineer's playground, where products are tested. Goldsbury says it's not just the history or the economy that influenced Bobcat and Doosan to build the Acceleration Center here.

"These men and women are people who understand our products and like to work with our product and you can't find that in every part of the country," says....
With more than 2,000 employees across the state, the Acceleration Center adds 175, and Seminary is optimistic that it will help Bismarck retain the younger generation.

"It's the kind of culture that is being embraced by the younger generation where you don't necessarily have a defined workplace," he says.

With more than 900 dealers worldwide, Goldsbury says the company's momentum will be generated right here in North Dakota. .
