MomsEveryday: Bedbugs

Posted: Updated:
We've all heard those horror stories of getting away for a vacation - and coming back with bed bugs. MomsEveryday correspondent Annie Payne explains what to look for to keep this from happening to your family

If you're lucky, this summer your family will be hitting the road for a much-needed vacation, but the last thing you need while getting comfortable in your home away from home is bedbugs. In today's Mom's everyday minute, how to spot the creepy crawlers.

When entering your new digs, put your luggage in the bathroom during your inspection, it's the least likely place to find bugs. First, take a deep breath. If you notice a sweet, musty smell in your hotel room or cabin there may-be an infestation.

Next, look for specks of blood on bedding, mattresses and upholstered furniture. Other signs of bedbugs include the outer shell they leave behind and tiny, black specks from excrement. Bedbugs also lay white oval eggs in cracks and crevices. Noticing the eggs is a sure sign of an infestation.

These little pests cause welt-like bites and severe itching, and if you bring them home with you, you'll need a professional to get rid of them. For more tips to make Mom's life easier visit momseveryday.com.
