Witness Leads Police to Thief

Posted: Updated:
Six cars were broken into over the weekend and Bismarck police may have caught the man responsible.

More than $1,700 worth of items were taken from unlocked vehicles between Thursday and Saturday.

Then early Sunday morning, a witness noticed Austin Bergquist going up to cars with a flashlight and checking door handles.

The witness followed Bergquist and his female passenger to another parking lot and called police with the license number.

When police confronted the pair they ran away. The 19-year-old man was arrested for breaking into a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. The girl is 17-years-old and was arrested for curfew violation.

Police say Bergquist may or may not be related to the other vehicle break-ins.
