National Rifle Association Hosts Family Day

Posted: Updated:
Whether it was their first time shooting or if they've been doing it for years, those who attended the annual family shoot day were bound to learn something new.

Hosted by the  Missouri Valley Shooting  Sports Association and the National Rifle Association, families were invited out for a chance to learn to shoot all types of guns. The free event offered one-on-one instruction for shotguns, pistols and rifles. From learning the difference in techniques, to figuring out if shooting is a sport they want to pursue, those who were there say it was an informational day for everyone.

"I learned to keep my weight on the balls of my feet when i'm shooting a shotgun and to squeeze the trigger and hold your breathe when you're shooting a rifle," says participant, Jordan Porter.

"They can find out if they want to pursue this sport and there's not really a lot of places to go do that so we seen an opportunity to provide that service and bring people out, it's free of charge at this time for people to come out and do this," says Jay Toepke, of Missouri Valley Shooting Association.

They were expecting up to one hundred and 50 people to come out during the day.
