Boaters, Check the Pump to Avoid Problems this Summer

Posted: Updated:
Boaters check the pump before hitting the water this summer, or you could cause harm to your engine. The National Marine Manufacturers Association says that using any fuel that has a blend higher than 10 percent of ethanol could cause problems for your engine.

North Dakota's Ethanol Council says that E 10 is approved for boats and small engines, and encourages boaters to not use blends higher than E 10 such as E 15.

"We do encourage boat owners to check their owners manuals but our neighbors to the East are just one example of a state where all boats in Minnesota lake country that are fueling there are using E 10," says Deana Wiese of the North Dakota Ethanol Council.

The gasoline at the docks at Misty Waters Marina, and South Port in Bismarck, do not contain ethanol. However some owners that fill up at gas stations, often have the option of gasoline blends with higher ethanol concentration that 10 percent.
