Stress Can Decrease Fat-Burning Ability

Posted: Updated:

For many of us fast food is a go-to meal during the day.

"It's fast and easy and sometimes you don't think to eat healthy," says fast food customer, Jennifer Kadrmas.

And when you don't eat healthy, all that fat from grab-and go-chains can cause some problems for our organs.

"High saturated fat foods can increase inflammation which then causes different hormones to be released in the body, which decreases your fat-burning ability," says dietitian, Nicole Enzminger.

Dietitians also say stress from daily life plays a huge role in weight gain.

"Lack of sleep, lack of regular exercise, lack of regular meals," says Enzminger.

So how can we manage that stress? Well, dietitians say just bring everything back to the basics.

"Planning times for those meals, planning times for your activities and not cramming things in so tightly," says Enzminger.

But let's be honest...our schedules get busy, and life often gets in the way. So sometimes, fast food is the only option. And when that happens, just think portion control.

"You can get a basic hamburger, small fry instead of a Big Mac and large fry," says Enzminger.

So if you can avoid fast food do it. Start your day off with a good breakfast, pack a lunch when you head to work and take some time to be active. It'll help keep your mind focused on that next project rather than the drive-through menu.
