Basin Electric Creates Employee Garden

Posted: Updated:
One Bismarck cooperative is giving back to the community, starting with their employees first.

It all began as an idea to bring employees together and in the end it connected Basin Electric with the community. The cooperative added Basin's Garden to their landscape which allows employees to grow and harvest crops in their spare time, but once it was time for their first harvest they thought of how to give back.

"When a cooperative is doing business within a community that cooperative wants to make a difference in that community well you know, this is just one small way you know, we are going to have a lot of produce come out of this garden. Probably more than we ourselves can eat, so, why wouldn't we you know, give that to local food banks," says Tracie Bettenhausen a Basin Electric garden coordinator.
