The Great Western Expo Kicks Off

Posted: Updated:
If you're looking for something to do this weekend there will be plenty of activities at Ft. Abraham Lincoln State Park.

Earlier today, these kids gathered on the steps at Gen. Custer's house for story time with his wife Libbie. But this isn't the only time youngsters will have a chance to interact with these famous characters in our history. Libbie, her husband Gen. Custer and his Brother Tom will all be at Ft. Lincoln this weekend to share stories of their life together.

"Mrs. Libbie's always trying to reform me, and she says I have to walk the straight and narrow. She's trying to get me to quit this and quit that. I like to stay up late and peruse a little bit too much for her," says Custer.

And after a trip to the 1800s there are plenty of modern activities for everyone to enjoy.

"We've got some craft venders out here. Some great food venders on site as well tomorrow afternoon. At 4:30 we've got our community picnic here, it's a free will donation to the North Dakota National guard foundation," says Ft. Lincoln event director Matt Schanadore.

And tomorrow night 32 Below will be performing at 8 p.m. It's the first time there will be a concert in the square.

"It's a perfect area for a concert. It's a wide open space at Ft. Abraham Lincoln. We're just south of Bismarck and Mandan and it's just a great venue with the buildings around us to have a large concert and just have a lot of family fun out here," says Schanadore.

But he says they expect a big crowd, so people should plan to come early.

Tickets are $15 for the weekend, and you can buy them online or at the park. For more information visit Http://www.parkrec.nd.gov/.
