Entrepreneurs Fund Products Online

Posted: Updated:
Two North Dakota entrepreneurs are releasing a new product. And it's getting noticed across the world. The Cable Keeper is a product designed right here in North Dakota. And thanks to a crowd-funding website, the product will be manufactured in the near future.

"Hi my name is Keenan. And I'm Rob. And we designed the Cable Keeper."

Keenan Hauff and Rob Burke have raised more than $14,000 to turn an idea into reality. Hauff says the Cable Keeper stores cables, cords and accessories.

"It replaces your drawer or bin of cables, like a lot of people have. It's hard to throw away a cable, because you never know when you're going to need it. You know, you have a cell phone, a couple old cell phones, cables from old TVs, they start piling up," says Hauff.

The men are funding their project through a crowdfunding website called Kickstarter. The website allows users to pledge money to help fund creative projects, often by pre-ordering a product.

In the last five years, Kickstarter has helped turn more than $65,000 ideas into reality. Hauff says it helped them determine if there was a demand for the Cable Keeper. It also provided money to produce their products on a scale rarely available to young entrepreneurs.

"A great way to validate someone's idea if they have an idea, is to say, 'Would somebody else buy this?' And, I think we've had a pretty overwhelming response that this is something people would buy," says Hauff.

More than 200 people have already backed the Cable Keeper.

"It's just such a simple clever idea that I don't think many people have thought about. I mean, it's so simple, but at the same time, very, very useful," says customer Gustavo San Jose.

Hauff says he's seen orders from all over the world, including Australia and Demark The company is in the process of finalizing an agreement with a U.S. manufacturer. They plan to ship their products in December.

Hauff says he hopes to see the product available in the Amazon store in the future.
