White House Recognizes Increased Crime in Bakken

Posted: Updated:

The Bakken is known as the land of opportunity for many, but it's also starting to get known for something less positive. Today, the White House released its 2014 national drug control strategy, and it lists the Bakken as an area with increased crime and drugs.

North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says it's an issue that law enforcement has been working to get control of.

"On the federal level they have added additional FBI agents here in North Dakota, and I'm told there may be even more that are coming. So, we've has some good cooperation from the federal level and homeland security has worked very closely with us. We have good cooperative efforts, but we need more manpower," says Stenehjem.

Stenehjem says he may have to ask the Legislature for additional funding for more resources during the next session.
