Soldiers Jump into Action

A trip to the grocery store is usually uneventful.

The incident took place in late June when the man had an apparent seizure while picking up a few groceries.

Gary Juersz stocks the dairy section just like he does everyday he works, but just a couple weeks ago his routine was changed when he noticed a man laying on the ground at the end of the isle.

"I looked down there and he was kind of convulsing and there was blood on the floor and ran over there and one of my employees came with and there was one of my produce employees talking on his phone calling 911," says Juersz.

After seeing the man on the floor, Juersz quickly got to the intercom and called to see if anyone in the store had any medical experience.

"I wasn't even a minute or two and three National Guard members come up and they were on spot to help us," says Juersz.

"We just tried to wake him up and talk to him and keep him calm. I'm sure you know once you wake up and you notice three guys in uniform over top of you, you might be a little hesitant. He woke up, and we we're trying to talk to him a little bit and let him know everything's going to be ok," says Sgt. Casey Bosch.

Even though their plan was just to make a quick trip to the store for some drinks, Bosch says he's just glad they were there to help.

"What I think about is if that was my family member or somebody that I know. That somebody would step in and do the same, so it makes me feel really good," says Bosch.

Fortunately, Juersz says this isn't a common occurrence at the grocery store, but he's glad there were people who were able to help out.

There was also a nurse who stepped in to help. They all stayed with the man until the ambulance arrived.
