Storm Tears Apart Farm Near Hannover

Posted: Updated:

Last night's storm was a wet and wild one in some places and pretty aggressive in others.

Mother nature targeted a farm near Hannover.

Well, I took an up close and personal look at all that damage, and the owners say they've never seen anything like this happen to their farm. A tornado wasn't confirmed last night, but owners say one may have come through...creating quite a mess.

After a strong storm it's all about picking up what Mother Nature threw down.

"It was a roar, and it looked like a snow storm. You couldn't see anything. We saw it coming. So, we were in the field bailing hay and we headed down here. Shut all the doors, put all the vehicles in. And the wind blew so hard we went in the basement," says farm owner Lonnie Henke.

The storm ripped through the Henke farm around10 p.m. leaving plenty of damage in it's path.

"It looks like the storm picked picked the shed right up and scattered it a half-mile south of here," he says.

And the damage doesn't end there.

The good news is Henke prepared for the worst, just in case the weather threw a curve ball at his farm.

"For the most part yes, we had insurance. And it's going to really help a lot...minus the deductible and some depreciation, but overall it's going to be make this disaster a lot more bearable," he says.

And even though the damage around the farm is pretty extensive, Henke says he'd like to start the rebuild-process A.S.A.P.

"As soon as the adjusters get here I'm going to call a contractor and have him start building," he says.

It's hard to see a silver lining when something like this happens to a person and their property, but Henke says no one was hurt during the storm and that's the biggest blessing of all.
