Weather Draws Crowds to River Bars

Posted: Updated:
Well it did rain on our parades the morning of the Fourth, but just a few hours later it was a different story. And local bar owners say weather can make or break a business on critical holiday weekends.

Susie White,  the co-owner of Captain Freddy's in Mandan, says whether they come by land or sea customers fill the patio and restaurant on nice days like today. With North Dakota summers being so short, bad weather on uh holiday weekend could be uh burden for services depending on big crowds. But White says so far, this holiday weekend has been better than she expected.

"But when the sun shines we have all the business we can handle and in fact yesterday the rain helped us a little bit even in the morning because people from the parade came over with their families and ate," says White.

White says she increases staff to about 40 people to keep up during the busy season.
