Williston Welcomes New Post Office

Posted: Updated:

The grand opening of the new post office in Williston was this morning. The new location will help deter some of the traffic from the other one.

The new post office is located at the Badlands Town Center behind Walmart. Residents came to visit the new location to see what it's all about.

“I think it's great,” says Williston resident Brandin Foos. “Ronica did a great job with the building. The whole layout is really nice. It's convenient because it is located close to my work and my home. Everything around here is really good so I like it.”

“Nice, clean and neat. And it doesn't have as long of a line as the other one. I tried yesterday. There was 25 people out the door," says Williston resident Jennifer Taff.

People have had problems at the old location because it is always busy. The parking lot is always packed, and usually people have to wait.

“We have been struggling for many years,” says Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. “We've been trying to get upgrades to the Williston Post Office. As the post office is struggling financially across the country, I think sometimes it's very hard to convince them to make investments in a place where they don't have a lot of familiarity.”

After the Post Master General visited Williston last summer, he realized the need for a new post office.

“It's going to benefit the area tremendously. First of all, we are located very close to the main trig here in Williston. We're close to some major stores that everybody shops at. So, it's going to be very easy for them to slip over here and conduct their postal business, check their mail or buy stamps," says Tammy Dunlop the Williston Post Master.

The new location will have a full service retail window, 2,800 boxes and a 24-7 self service kiosk.

“It's going to be great because there's a whole different community on this side of town,” says Foos. “There is a lot of people with all the apartments and new housing going in over here. It's more conveniently located. It will be quicker for people to come. People will probably use the post office a little more because it is close.”

Taff says the new location will really benefit the people who are here to work temporally.

Dunlop thinks it will take about 30 days for more people to start coming to this location.
