Bakken Express Could Reduce Traffic

Posted: Updated:

The second-largest pipeline by diameter in the state will deliver crude oil from Killdeer to Dickinson beginning July 1.

The Bakken Oil Express Pipeline will be able to move 165,000 barrels a day, from pumping stations in Killdeer to the BOE's rail station in Dickinson.

"This project is going to address the truck traffic in North Dakota by moving that crude oil from the producing fields to either a pipeline or rail facility in the state. So, projects like this will help to alleviate truck congestion and road condition issues in western North Dakota," says Justin Kringstad of the Pipeline Authority.

The PSC approved the company's permit in January, and their report says that if the pipeline operates at full capacity it could remove up to 825 tanker trucks per day on Highway 22.
