Baby Undergoes Surgery for Hearing

Posted: Updated:

Birthdays are a time to celebrate. One little girl in our community is about to receive the gift of a lifetime.

Olivia Erickson was born completely deaf. For the past year, her family has worked closely with her to learn sign language. Tomorrow, Olivia is turning a year old, and on Thursday she'll get surgery at the Mayo Clinic for a cochlear implant. Once the implant is healed, Olivia will be the fourth baby to have it activated right here in Minot.

“She’s never heard me say I love you, she's never heard her name, and she’s never heard mom or dad. I can’t wait to tell her, you know, this means mom,” Olivia’s mother Megan Erickson said.

The surgery doesn't come cheap. The Erickson family recently learned that they lost an income and cannot financially support these medical bills.

With that said, they've set up the Olivia Erickson benefit account at Town & Country Credit Union. If you're interested in donating you can contact the bank at 701-852-2018.
