Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Torch Lite

Posted: Updated:

From flashlights to lanterns, lighting up dark areas is never easy, especially when you don't have much space. Well, there may be a hands-free way to brighten up dark places.

The tools are in hand, and Jerry Johnson is ready to work on a city street truck, but there is one problem.

"Most every area with the lighting that we have here in the shop is usually dark, so we usually have to have some pretty bright droplets and different kinds of lighting," says Johnson a Minot shop mechanic.

But, even with drop lighting, it's still difficult to shine the light on small dark areas underneath the truck.

"We're always looking for new different products that they have out so that way we can actually see what we're doing to repair what we need to," says Johnson.

To make Johnson's work clearer, we're going to find out if the Torch Lite brightens his path.

"It feels nice, it feels a little frail at some points, but we'll see how it works," says Johnson.

Before using, just load the Torch Lite with three AA batteries.

"She's nice and bright," says Johnson.

Finally, it was time to try out. To mount, you can either use the magnets on the bottom or the swivel hanging hook depending on the space.

"Whenever we work underneath these vehicles, there's very little light,” says Johnson. “But, this right here, it actually provides a lot of good light for me."

The main difference between the Torch Lite and standard drop lighting is you don't have to worry about any the cords and its hands-free.

"Oh, big difference,” says Johnson. “The drop lights that we currently have don't do anything near this good."

So, did the Torch Lite shine bright?

"It was well worth the $10 that it would cost," says Johnson.

This product really lit up our world. It is small, portable, and easy to use. And, of course, it provided lots of light underneath the car.

So, this week's Don't Buy It, Until We Try It, earns a thumbs up.
