Forestry Department Hosts Spring Workshop

Posted: Updated:

The roots may already be in place, but now, the Minot Park District is branching out.

The Forestry Department is hosting the North Dakota Urban and Community Forestry Association for a spring workshop in the Magic City.

During the two day conference, the group will be introduced to some of the latest and greatest equipment for climbing and rigging with a hands-on approach.

This includes work with stump grinders, chippers and aerial lifters. The goal is to share ideas and techniques to make working with trees safer, easier and more efficient.

"Every piece of equipment we have has to hold at least 5,000 pounds and the ropes have to hold at least 5,400 pounds and most of them are closer to 10,000. So, there’s a lot of safety built into the work and this is to do tree trimming work and things of that sort,” says Bob Underwood, of the Minot Park District Forestry Department.

Friday, the group will host a day of service at Oak Park to continue flood recovery efforts.
