Run 4 Reiny Comes to an End

Posted: Updated:
It was a fun and emotional day at Oak Park in Minot yesterday as members of the community came together for the fifth and final Run for Reiny.

The run and walk is dedicated to the memory of Reiny Inman of Surrey, who passed away in 2009 following a car accident. One of Reiny's high school running teammates, Shelby Gantzer, took it upon herself to organize the event.

Over the years, proceeds of the event have gone to uniforms for their school's running teams, last year's Boston Marathon bombings and other charities.

Shelby has been battling epilepsy since 2012, so she and her family decided that this was the event's last year. But, Reiny's parents decided that the money gathered this year will go towards getting Shelby a service dog to warn her of a possible seizure. Today, Shelby looked back on five years of Run for Reiny.

"We want to see people remembering Reiny in a happy way, says founder and walk/run coordinator Gantzer. "She was always smiling, always giving you advice and helping you out with something. This is our way of thanking her, and reminding her for all she did."

You can make a donation at any First Western Bank and Trust. An account has been set up under the name Run 4 Reiny.
