Relay for Life Raises BIG Money

Posted: Updated:
Aiming to raise more than $300,000 for cancer research, the Bismarck-Mandan Relay for Life is going on right now at Century High School.

More than 700 people split into 66 teams to participate in the 15-hour fundraiser. The overnight walk benefits the American Cancer Society in an effort to find a cure for cancer. A survivors lap, luminaria ceremony, cupcake war, and bonfires are going on to keep spirits high. And organizers say the walk gets a lot of participation because it isn't specific to one type of cancer.
"I think it's because it's not just one disease cancer specific, it represents any type of cancer in genera. We're here to honor survivors we consider a person one day out of diagnosis. We have survivors here we had our survivors walk just about 40 minutes ago and we probably had over 300 survivors walking that walk," says event chairperson, Lori Hoherz.

This morning the event had raised more than $240,000.
