Oil Spill Near New Town

Posted: Updated:
The backlash of North Dakota's oil boom strikes again today with another massive oil spill.

The state health department tells us about 680 barrels of crude oil have spilled from an underground pipeline. Crews are now working to clean up that mess at an oil gathering site about 14 miles northeast of new town. We're talking about 25-thousand gallons of oil, and state environmental health officials say the owners, Bridger Pipeline, has a perimeter dike at the well site that prevented most of the oil from escaping.
The leak was discovered around 2:30 Friday afternoon and the company reported it to the state just before three pm. Health officials are examining the site today to find out how the pipeline ruptured.
