Organization Helps Guatemalan Infants

Posted: Updated:
A hospital that treats malnourished infants and children in Guatemala has been evacuated after heavy rains and a flash flood.

The God's Child project, based in Bismarck, supports the Casa Jackson Malnourished Infants hospital. Staff and volunteers have been moving babies and children along with supplies to a temporary hospital.

Water from a broken main damaged and contaminated to the hospital's first floor, and it's not clear yet if the babies will be able to return.

"Since those babies are so sick, and they have compromised immune systems anyway, we have to be very careful what environment we bring them back to. It can't be anything that's going to have any kind of mold or pollutants or airborne pathogens at all. It has to be very clean, and I don't know if we're going to be able to do this at this point in time," says Stacy Sturm of the God's Child Project.
