Jaeger Approves Pharmacy Petition

Posted: Updated:

The state Legislature has voted it down more than once, but this time petitioners want to get it on the ballot for the voters to decide.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger has approved the wording of a petition seeking support for changing state law when it comes to the operation of a pharmacy. State law requires that anyone applying to own a pharmacy must be a licensed pharmacist or a business controlled by licensed pharmacists.

That has prevented big box stores like Walmart from opening pharmacies and possibly undercutting competition by selling prescriptions for less.

In order to get the issue on the November ballot, the sponsors will have to gather more than 13,000 valid petition signatures by August 6.
