Fort Lincoln Offers Alternative To Traditional Getaway

Posted: Updated:
More people are heading outdoors as the summer heats up. And you don't have to go far to escape the city.

If you're looking for a weekend getaway, Fort Lincoln State Park has a lot to offer.

"This has been the best park. Great facilities, very clear directions, price is good. And right now the weather is great, so we're having a great time," says Philip Barnes, Iowa.

The park offers primitive and RV camping. You can also rent a cabin for $40 a night. And for those looking for something a little different, there's a unique option.

"They're pretty popular. We get people just driving by or even people with tents sometimes come camping, and they see these, and they'd rather go into a teepee if they're available. People do enjoy using them, it's just something different," says Park Ranger Maureen Trnka.

The park has had the teepees for three years.

They cost $25 a night. Each one sleeps up to eight people, and cots and a table are provided.

"There's picnic tables and fire rings at each of the sites. We just offer the two of them," says Trnka.

But no matter which option you choose, the park has plenty to offer.

"We've enjoyed just being outside and participating in all the activities we can do outside, but in a different part of the country," says Barnes.

Fort Lincoln State Park now requires reservations for campers.

Campsite and cabin reservations may be made online by visiting Http://www.parkrec.nd.gov/information/parks/reservations.html or by calling 800-807-4723.
