Council Encourages Men To Stand Against Violence Against Women

Posted: Updated:

The manifesto of the accused shooter in last week's mass killing in California is now sparking a global conversation about women's rights.

The document included many degrading sentiments about women. Now, the hashtag "yes all women" has been trending on Twitter over the past few days. It's been posted over a million times.

The phrase is a response to people who say "not all men" are sexist.

Groups in North Dakota say it's important for both men and women to talk about this issue.

"To see so many people engaging in a conversation we've been pushing communities and members of society, at least in North Dakota, to have the conversation about that violence against women happens everyday, even in our state. Now to see that on a global perspective really shines light on what we're doing in our own state here," says Janelle Moos of the North Dakota Council on Abused Women's Services.

Moos says the Council on Abused Women's Services is working on a bystander campaign to empower men to stand up for women.
