Company Looks To Identify Pipeline Owner

Posted: Updated:

The North Dakota Department of Health is still working to find the owner of an abandoned pipeline. The oil pipeline was one of two that leaked last week, spilling about 10 barrels of natural gas and crude oil into a creek.

The natural gas pipeline is owned by Hess corporation which has been capped, along with the third abandoned oil and gas pipeline, to stop the leaks.

"We've been exposing the three pipelines to get a better idea of what they need to do to patch the one and or replace a segment of it. We also want to know what to do to this abandoned line to make sure its cleaned out so it's not going to cause a problem in the future," says Kris Roberts of the North Dakota Department of Health.

The spill reached Sandy Creek which is a tributary to Lake Sakakawea. Roberts says booms were placed in the river last week and that the waste has been contained.
